Transport for London (TFL) have renamed a line after England’s Lionesses.

TFL have announced a rebrand of several Overground lines across London with the Euston to Watford Junction line now renamed to the ‘Lioness Line’, in acknowledgement of the Lionesses’ success at UEFA Euro 2022 with the line passing Wembley – where England beat Germany in the Final.

Wembley was also the venue where Sarina Wiegman’s Lionesses won the Women’s Finalissima after they beat Brazil on penalties in April 2023.

On X, Mayor of London – Saqid Khan explained that the name change ‘honours the historic achievements and lasting legacy created by the England women’s football team that continues to inspire and empower the next generation of women and girls in sport.’

On the TFL Map, the line will be displayed in yellow and Lionesses defender, Lotte Wubben-Moy joked that that they won’t be at fault for any delays.

England Football Association’s CEO, Mark Bullingham issued the following statement on the unveiling of the Lioness Line, expressing delight at the recognition of the Lionesses’ impact and legacy.

“We’re so pleased to see the Mayor of London and Transport for London recognise the historic achievements of our England women’s team with the newly named Lioness line.

“The line honours the incredible victory in the UEFA Women’s EURO in 2022 at Wembley Stadium connected by EE, and the lasting legacy this team is creating in inspiring the next generation.”
