Brighton remained third after a ruthless 5-0 demolition of Crystal Palace as Jaydee Canvot’s own-goal coupled with goals from Diego Gomez and Yasin Ayari settled the contest in the opening 10 minutes, before Charalampos Kostoulas and Jack Hinshelwood wrapped up the result in the second half.

Chelsea rounded out the top four with a 2-0 win at Everton through Pedro Neto’s second-half brace.

Down in the relegation zone, Fulham moved off the foot of the table to third bottom after Alex Iwobi struck a 33rd-minute winning strike in a 1-0 home win over Hull to end their winless start, although the Cottagers finished a man down after Ryan Sessegnon was red carded for a foul on Robino Vaz’s left calf.

Sunderland fell to the foot of the table after they suffered a 2-0 loss at Bournemouth as Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson netted for the Cherries, either side of Kevin Danso’s red card for the Black Cats following a foul on Evanilson.

Tottenham climbed out of the bottom three with their first league win of the campaign as they defeated Coventry 3-1 in North London, as Omar Marmoush and Ben Davies sealed victory in the second half after Coventry’s Jack Rudoni cancelled out James Maddison’s 14th-minute strike.
