2026-27 Premier League: Week Eight – Sunderland vs Leeds

Sunderland continue their battle for Premier League survival against Leeds United.

Victory would move Sunderland out of the relegation zone, whilst Leeds can potentially move into the top six with a win.

Team News

Kevin Danso is suspended for Sunderland after his red card in their last domestic match, which saw the Black Cats lose 2-0 at Bournemouth.

Brian Brobbey is set to return after he missed their last four matches due to a hamstring injury.

Wilson Isidor (knock), Dan Ballard, Thomas Meunier (both hamstring) and Romaine Mundle (knee) remain ruled out.

Leeds could be without Dominic Calvert-Lewin after he suffered a minor foot injury during their 1-1 draw at home against Manchester United.

Noah Okafor (adductor) and Anton Stach (foot) are doubts and face late fitness checks.

Joe Rodon (hamstring) and Dan James (back) could return but Mateo Joseph (ACL) remains absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Sunderland host Leeds at the Stadium of Light on Sunday 25 October at 4:30pm GMT, live on Sky Sports Main Event and Premier League in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Sunderland have lost two of their last six Premier League meetings against Leeds (W3, D1, L2).
  • Leeds have won four of their six previous Premier League trips to Sunderland (W4, D1, L1).
  • Sunderland’s Robin Roefs and Granit Xhaka have both produced 50 successful long passes this season.
  • No Leeds players have made more blocks than Nico Elvedi and Tarik Muharemovic this season (5).

Prediction

Having endured a tough week in which they were outplayed at Bournemouth then let an one-goal lead slip to draw at Lech Poznan in the Europa League, Sunderland now really need to knuckle down and find their solid flair of last season because this is a big chance to get out of the bottom three.

Leeds meanwhile are solidly sat inside the top ten coming into this weekend but they didn’t clinically convert too many of their opportunities against Man Utd when on top, and were unsurprisingly caught out on a counter-attack but that point could be key come May.

Sunderland though will be boosted by the return of Brobbey who has been missed up front lately but if their defence continues to be sloppy, I can see Leeds nicking this.

Prediction: Sunderland 1-2 Leeds
