Roundup of latest Premier League action as the title fight blew wide open.
Emiliano Buendia’s 95th-minute strike saw third-placed Aston Villa move to within three points of league leaders, Arsenal with a 2-1 win over Mikel Arteta’s Gunners, after Matty Cash’s opener was cancelled out by Leandro Trossard’s equaliser.
Rayan Cherki set up Ruben Dias and Phil Foden for the respective opening and closing goals of Manchester City’s 3-0 win at home to Sunderland, whilst Josko Gvardiol netted their second goal to move to two points off the summit whilst the Black Cats finished a man down after Luke O’Nien’s late red card.
Marc Guehi’s 87th-minute header saw Crystal Palace climb to fourth with a 2-1 victory at London rivals, Fulham, after Eddie Nketiah’s opening goal was cancelled out by Harry Wilson.
Chelsea rounded out the top five with a goalless draw at Bournemouth where they were second-best at times, but lucky that Andoni Iraola’s Cherries were often caught out by the offside flag.
Down in the relegation zone, Wolves remained winless at the foot of the table after Jean Ricner-Bellegarde’s equaliser couldn’t prevent a 4-1 home defeat against Manchester United, in which Bruno Fernandes struck twice whilst Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount too netted.
Zian Flemming’s 94th-minute penalty couldn’t prevent second-bottom and ten-men Burnley losing 2-1 at Newcastle, as Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon netted in the first half for the Magpies either side of the Clarets’ Lucas Pires being sent off for a foul on Anthony Elanga.
West Ham remained third bottom after Jarrod Bowen’s 73rd-minute finish was cancelled out by Georginio Rutter’s injury-time equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Brighton.
Elsewhere, Ao Tanaka’s 96th-minute strike rescued Leeds a 3-3 draw at home to Liverpool in which Hugo Ekitike’s brace put the Reds in control before Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Anton Stach pulled the Whites level, only for Dominik Szoboszlai to net a third goal for Arne Slot’s visitors.
Xavi Simons set up Richarlison’s close-range opener before his solo finish saw Tottenham clinch a 2-0 victory at home over their manager – Thomas Frank’s former team, Brentford.
Nikola Milenkovic’s second-minute own-goal fired Everton to an eventual 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest at Hill Dickinson Stadium, as Thierno Barry scored his first goal for the Toffees and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall wrapped up the result with a low finish.
