Defender, Byron Webster has announced his retirement from football after a 22-year playing career.
Webster left Bromley upon expiry of his contract on 30 June following confirmation of his departure in late April and after consideration, he decided to retire from football at 39-years-old and end his 22-year playing career with confirmation.
Bromley are meeting another of Webster’s former clubs, Millwall in a pre-season friendly at the Copperjax Stadium tonight (28 July) at 7:45pm BST, and the Ravens officially announced Webster’s retirement on their social media accounts.
“Ahead of tonight’s friendly, we can confirm that Bromley and Millwall legend Byron Webster has announced his retirement from professional football.
“A name written in Bromley FC folklore forever š
“We thank Byron once again for all he has done in a Bromley shirt over the years and wish him the best in his next chapter.”
The club also confirmed that he would be in attendance at the friendly, whilst the defender subsequently released a video montage of his highlights on his Instagram account, with focus on the future as he wrote “Onto the next chapter.”

Webster began his senior career at York City where he scored one goal in 24 appearances following his debut in December 2004 in a 2-1 loss to Burton Albion, before stints at Harrogate, Whitby and Czech Republic’s Banik Most followed, before he returned to England in 2009 to sign for Doncaster Rovers.
He however only made 14 appearances for Doncaster in two seasons and spent 2010-11 season on loans at Hereford United then Northampton Town, before he moved to League One’s Yeovil in 2012 and helped them gain promotion to the Championship in his first season via play-offs.
Yeovil however were relegated after just one season in the Championship but Webster secured a move to Millwall in summer 2014, which saw him go on to score 8 goals in 138 appearances and earn promotion from League One to Championship in 2016-17 season via the third-tier’s play-offs after two seasons in League One.
He however spent the second half of 2014-15 season back at Yeovil on loan where he made 14 appearances.
Following his departure from Millwall in January 2019, Webster spent time at Scunthorpe United and Carlisle before he returned to London in September to join Bromley in the National League.
During his time with the Ravens, he helped them win the 2021-22 FA Trophy before further play-off success followed as he scored the winning penalty in May 2024, which saw Bromley achieve promotion into the EFL for the first time with victory over Solihull Moors on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
He subsequently helped Bromley go on their longest FA Cup run in the 2024-25 season which saw them eliminated by Newcastle United in the third round, amidst survival in their first League Two campaign before they were promoted as champions at the end of last season to League One.
