Theo Pourchaire has joined ART Grand Prix for 2021 Formula Two season.
Pourchaire drove for ART GP in Formula Three in 2020 where he finished as vice-champion before stepping up to F2 with HWA Racelab for the final two rounds in Bahrain.
Speaking on his “happy” decision to stay at ART GP as he commences a proper rookie season in F2, Pourchaire said; “This team gave me the opportunity to drive in F3 last year and now accompanies me to the gates of Formula 1, in F2.”
Pourchaire also admitted that “my aim does not change” as he targets a title challenge, although he is wary that gaining experience is important, saying; “I will probably be the youngest driver in the F2 championship this year, so the goal will be to gain as much experience as possible and to progress throughout the season.”
ART GP Team Principal, Sebastien Philippe has described Pourchaire’s progress as ‘remarkable’, adding that the Frenchman has impressed with “… his evolution in a delicate context and with an extremely competitive field.”
Acknowledging that Pourchaire could of stayed in F3 for another season, Philippe said; “Theo had nothing to gain by doing a second season in F3 and his move to F2 is the logical next step of our collaboration.”
Philippe meanwhile moved to swiftly dampen any doubters who feel that Pourchaire might be rising up the motorsport ladder too quickly, adding; “The step is high, but between his talent, his determination and his thirst for learning, I’m sure he can make this transition a success.”
Pourchaire is also a member of Sauber’s Young Driver Academy and enjoyed eight podiums in F3 last season, including becoming the youngest-ever race winner after snatching victory at the second race in Styria following a collision between Liam Lawson and Jake Hughes during the closing laps.
