Chesterfield have signed 22-year-old forward, Fraser Bryden from Crusaders for an undisclosed transfer fee.
Bryden’s move comes after a successful breakthrough season at Ireland’s Crusaders, which saw him score 23 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions.
Chesterfield subsequently beat off competition from multiple clubs to sign the 22-year-old forward for an undisclosed fee, with Bryden having signed a three-year contract with the Spireites.
Feeling delighted to have sealed his move, Bryden told chesterfield-fc.co.uk that he was “delighted” to complete the switch and meet his new teammates.
“The club looks brilliant,” commented Bryden. “The facilities are all top-class and I’m just looking forward to getting started on the pitch.
“All the boys have been so good and all the staff seemed really welcoming. I’m looking forward to meeting the rest of the people at the club.”
Bryden described himself as a goalscorer and is keen to continue his momentum from his time at Crusaders despite his move to a new club and league, having began his career at Ayr United in Scotland and experienced a loan stint at Queen of the South before he moved across to Ireland.
“I’m a number nine, centre-forward, I like to get myself in between the sticks and score goals.
“I had a really good season last year in Northern Ireland and coming across here this summer, I’m looking to kick-start where I left last season and try to hit the ground running.”
Chesterfield’s assistant-manager, Danny Webb added that the club had wanted another forward signing and felt that Bryden fitted the qualities that they needed for a promotion challenge this season – having fell short in the League Two Play-Offs in each of the last two seasons.
“He’s a player we’ve been looking at for a while and we believe his goal contribution and all round game will have a big part to play going forward.”
