Bukayo Saka’s ninth-minute deflected finish on his 300th club appearance saw Arsenal scrape past Brighton at the summit of the top-flight in a 1-0 win at the AMEX Stadium.

Second-placed Manchester City however slipped seven points behind Mikel Arteta’s Gunners after they were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Nottingham Forest, having led twice through Antoine Semenyo and Rodri amidst equalisers from Morgan Gibbs-White and Elliot Anderson.

Third-placed Manchester United suffered their first defeat under interim manager, Michael Carrick in a 2-1 loss at ten-men Newcastle, as William Osula struck a 90th-minute winner for the Magpies following first-half injury-time goals from Anthony Gordon and Casemiro in the wake of Jacob Ramsay’s red card.

Fourth-placed Aston Villa initially led through Douglas Luiz’s close-range finish but fell to a 4-1 home loss against Chelsea, as Joao Pedro’s hat-trick and Cole Palmer’s strike sealed the Blues’ comeback.

Down in the relegation zone, Andre netted a 94th-minute winner as rock-bottom Wolves stunned Liverpool 2-1 at Molineux, having led through Rodrigo Gomes’ chipped finish before Mohamed Salah dragged the Reds level from an intercepted pass.

James Tarkowski’s header and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s finish saw Everton defeat second-bottom Burnley at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

West Ham remain third-bottom on goal difference after Crysencio Summerville netted a 65th-minute winner at Fulham.

Elsewhere, Habib Diarra’s 70th-minute penalty saw Sunderland edge past Leeds in a closely-fought battle at Elland Road.

Tottenham were left one point above the relegation zone after their winless run extended to 11 matches in a 3-1 home loss to Crystal Palace, as Ismaila Sarr’s brace and Jorgen Strand Larsen’s effort saw the Eagles come from behind to win following Mickey van de Ven’s red card after Dominic Solanke put Spurs in front.

Bournemouth extended their unbeaten run to nine matches with a goalless draw against Brentford at the Vitality Stadium.
