Huddersfield Town have announced that six first-team players will be released upon expiry of their contracts in June 2022.
Jamal Blackman, Naby Sarr, Reece Brown, Carol Eiting, Alex Vallejo and Fraizer Campbell will depart the club upon expiry of their contracts on 30 June, after the Terriers opted to offer any of the six first-team players a new contract.
Blackman’s departure comes after he made just two appearances for Huddersfield following his arrival in January, which came in their Fifth Round exit in the FA Cup at Nottingham Forest and in a 2-0 home win over Bristol City on the final day of Championship regular season.
Sarr meanwhile departs the club after scoring seven goals in 66 appearances since he arrived on a free transfer from Charlton Athletic in September 2020, with his final goal for Huddersfield coming in a crucial 2-0 victory away at Middlesbrough on Easter Monday in April.
Brown leaves the club after managing just one senior appearance which came in their First Round exit at home to Lincoln City in 2019-20 EFL Cup, before he was sent out on loan to Peterborough United across three separate stints
Eiting spent last season on loan at Huddersfield before returning in January on a short-term contract until end of season, which the club have decided against converting into a long-term deal despite the midfielder scoring three goals in 30 appearances across both stints.
Vallejo joined Huddersfield in October 2020 as a free agent and despite enduring a serious injury during this season, the Spanish midfielder managed to score once in 23 senior appearances across the last two seasons.
Campbell joined his hometown club on a free transfer in August 2019 following his departure from Hull and went on to become an influential figure in the squad, as he netted 10 goals in 94 appearances across all competitions over the last three seasons.
Paying tribute to the six departing players, Huddersfield released the following statement:
“The players departing the Club this summer have all made significant contributions to Town throughout their time as a Terrier, and we would like to thank Alex, Reece, Jamal, Fraizer, Naby and Carel for their effort and commitment to the cause.”
Huddersfield also confirmed that Levi Colwill and Tino Anjorin would return to Chelsea following the end of their loan deals, whilst Daniel Sinani would head back to Norwich after he netted seven goals in 47 appearances whilst on loan from the Canaries.
Harry Toffolo and Josh Koroma however will remain with Huddersfield for the 2022-23 season, after the club opted to activate retainment clauses in their contracts.
Huddersfield finished the 2021-22 Sky Bet Championship season in third-place but missed out on promotion to the Premier League, following their 1-0 defeat to Forest in the Play-Off Final after having scraped past Luton in a two-legged semi-final.
