Five Key Pointers
- With 25-lap mandatory limits on all tyres across the weekend, teams face a massive test of their maths skills to ensure that they don’t exceed that limit, whilst maximising their track time in practice.
- The mandatory tyre limits also mean that teams will have to run two-stop strategies with the undercut expected to be significant, which could play a role in how the race plays out come the checkered flag.
- With more medium and high-speed corners than in Las Vegas, McLaren should be favourites after having produced strong performances in the last two trips to Lusail but Red Bull and Verstappen can’t be underestimated.
- 2023 & 24 saw Piastri win the sprint races whilst Verstappen won the main races which will give both drivers belief coming into the weekend in their title fight with Norris.
- Possibility of high winds and sand breezing across the track the track will provide a test of car stability and grip.
Last Time Out
Piastri won the sprint race in 2024 like he did in 2023 whilst Verstappen recovered from an one-place grid penalty to win the main race once more.
Title Permutations
With a 24-point lead over Piastri and Verstappen, Norris can wrap up his maiden F1 title with a round to spare if he outscore his title rivals by two points come the conclusion of the Grand Prix, which can be achieved with a top-six finish in the sprint and victory in the main race.
