Red Bull have announced that Liam Lawson will race for the team at Zandvoort, Netherlands, after Isack Hadjar suffered a wrist injury.
Hadjar sustained a wrist injury during training in a gym during the summer shutdown period and following examination, he has been ruled out of the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort this weekend across 21-23 August.
Lawson consequently has been promoted from Racing Bulls to fill his seat due to being the highest-placed driver within their sister team, with 43 points to Arvid Lindblad’s 23.
This move also means that Lawson is the first former Red Bull driver to return to the team for at least one race after having either left or been demoted in his case, having been dropped to Racing Bulls early last season after two difficult opening weekends.
Reserve driver, Yuki Tsunoda will step in as Lawson’s replacement at Racing Bulls partnering Lindblad, because in-form junior programme driver – Nikola Tsolov currently doesn’t hold the necessary FIA Super License to race in F1.
It is unclear when Hadjar will be fit enough to return to race action although F1 has a fortnight’s break after Zandvoort before the Italian GP at Monza, Italy on weekend of 4-6 September, which is followed by the Spanish GP in Madrid a week later.
Isack has sustained a wrist injury that will prevent him from racing in Zandvoort.
