McLaren’s Lando Norris dominated 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix to take the title lead.
Norris led every lap from lights to flag to take the championship lead from his McLaren teammate, Oscar Piastri who recovered from seventh to fifth behind Haas’ Oliver Bearman who achieved his best finish in F1 with fourth.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc fought off Red Bull’s Max Verstappen to finish second.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli, George Russell, Lewis Hamilton, Esteban Ocon and Gabriel Bortoleto rounded out the top ten.
In the drivers’ standings, Norris now leads Piastri by a single point with Verstappen 36 points behind the Brit.
At lights out, Norris led from lights out but briefly lost the lead to Leclerc who cut across the first three corners along with Verstappen, only for the Monegasque to hand the lead back into turn 4.
Verstappen meanwhile rejoined fourth on the road to Russell’s disgust and the reigning four-time champion soon found himself battling Hamilton for third.
Tension boiled over on lap 6 as Verstappen unleashed a reckless lunge on the inside of turn 1 which sent Hamilton wide, before the pair locked up and cut turn 4, of which only Hamilton controversially received a ten-second time penalty as he rejoined in third with a large gap.
Verstappen meanwhile escaped punishment for his actions across the opening six laps.
Their shenanigans caught Russell which allowed Bearman to sneak through into fourth which became third once the first pit stop cycle played out.
Russell however found himself stuck behind Antonelli and haggled Mercedes into switching the pair which consequently happened on lap 41, but he couldn’t catch Bearman.
Antonelli held up Piastri until the pair plus Hamilton gambled on a second stop on lap 48 which saw Piastri jump Antonelli during their stops, whilst Bearman and Russell followed suit a lap later to cover off any potential threat which promoted Verstappen into third on his one-stop strategy.
Bearman however covered off Russell until the Mercedes driver fell into Piastri’s clutches and lost fifth into turn 1 on lap 60 as the Aussie unleashed a deep inside move.
Up front, Norris cruised to his tenth F1 victory and McLaren’s first win in Mexico since 1989, albeit under a near Virtual Safety Car (VSC) finish due to Williams’ Carlos Sainz stopping in the final sector after he spun between turns 14-15, as Leclerc fought off Verstappen for second after the VSC ended on the final lap.
F1 now head to Sao Paulo, Brazil, from 7-9 November for the 2025 Sao Paulo GP which will mark the penultimate sprint weekend of the season.
