2024-25 League 2: Week One – Harrogate vs Bromley

Harrogate Town host EFL newcomers, Bromley in the standout tie of the opening weekend in 2024-25 League Two.

Harrogate will look to start building upon their mid-table finish of last season, whilst Bromley seek to begin life in the EFL on a winning note following their promotion from the National League.

 

Team News

Zico Asare is a doubt for Harrogate after he suffered an ankle injury in pre-season.

Bromley have no injury concerns to report after a positive pre-season, in which they signed Sam Long on a permanent transfer and Cameron Congreve on loan amongst eight new signings.

• Harrogate are yet to lose to Bromley in all league competitions (W1, D3).
• Bromley are winless in their two previous visits to Harrogate (D1, L1), having lost 1-0 in March 2019 then drew 1-1 in March 2020 in National League.
• Both teams scored in three of their four previous league meetings.
• Harrogate scored just three goals in two of their six pre-season friendlies (D2, L4).
• Andy Woodman’s Ravens won five of their six pre-season friendlies (W5, L1), with Michael Cheek and Levi Amantchi scoring three goals apiece.

 

Prediction

Following their solid season of progress last campaign, Harrogate seem to have gone backwards in pre-season with no wins but they crucially manged clean sheets in their last two friendlies – which both finished goalless.

Simon Weaver’s Sulphurites now need to use the momentum of those two draws and add some goals, whilst trying not to underestimate Bromley.

Speaking of the newbies, they enjoyed a much stronger pre-season which hopefully can translate across into the early stages of the season, especially if Michael Cheek and Levi Amantchi can continue their form and the team handle the pressure of this occasion.

In fact if Woodman’s Ravens can score first and are more solid defensively than they were in the closing stages of last season, I can see them winning this but Harrogate won’t make it easy given their goalscoring form at home.
