Bromley have signed goalkeeper, Sam Long from Lincoln City for an undisclosed fee.

Long spent two months on loan at Bromley between January – March 2023 in which he made just a single appearance before he was recalled, which came in a 2-1 loss at home to 2022-23 National League champions, Wrexham.

The Ravens since went on to claim promotion last season via the play-offs and opted to add another addition to their goalkeeping selection, with Long joining Grant Smith and 18 year-old Kacper Orlowski amongst Bromley’s goalkeepers.

Lincoln City’s Director of Football, Jez George explained that the decision to allow Long to join Bromley was purely a footballing decision.

“Sam is a very talented young man but it is just so difficult to come through as a young goalkeeper and establish yourself as a No.1. As we cannot provide Sam with this pathway, it is only fair to allow him to find that opportunity elsewhere.

“The fact that we have signed two 23-year-old goalkeepers this summer, who are both on that journey, shows the patience and time required.”

George however assured Imps supporters that they will “retain a future interest” in Long and are confident that he can find “attainable” regular first-team action at Bromley, which can enable him to go on to “have a really successful career.”

Long took to X to pay tribute to the Imps for their support in his career so far as he thanked the club for their part in his footballing journey.

Long initially began his career at Crystal Palace across Under 10s – Under 14s level only to be released due to his then small height, with Lincoln City going on to sign him for their youth academy.

During his time at the Imps, Long enjoyed loan spells with Gainsborough Trinity, Drogheda United, Boston United and Falkirk, amidst six first-team appearances for Lincoln City during 2020-21 season.
