Manager, Gary O’Neil has signed a new four-year contract at Wolves until June 2028.

O’Neil took charge of the Old Gold exactly one year ago and guided them to a 13th-placed Premier League finish, plus the Quarter-Finals of the FA Cup where they lost to Coventry in a dramatic thriller at Molineux.

Wolves Chairman, Jeff Shi believes that O’Neil is the right manager to lead the club forward, and considers the 41 year-old as a “key” member who can steer the team to success.

“I think the club has a positive future, building a new cycle for growth, better results on the pitch and ambitions to realise.

“To prepare for that, we need a very good team and I think Gary is a key member of the team, maybe even the most important member, so we are very happy to have him here for the long-term.”

Shi also praised the ex Bournemouth boss for how he has handled his first season at Molineux, having arrived just five days before the new season began following Julen Lopetegui’s decision to stand down.

“He works very hard and is very humble. He might be the humblest manager I have ever worked with and one of the most hard-working coaches I’ve ever met. His strengths are around his tactics and his chemistry with the players.”

Shi also acknowledged O’Neil’s bond with fans in terms of how he managed to unite the squad with the supporters and city as “one unit,”  which meant that “the whole city will be like a team too.”

Shi eventually teased about the club’s future as he concluded: “I’m always very excited about the future and we want to do more.

“We want to make fans happy about us. Even after eight years, we feel it’s just the start for a long and successful period for the club. We are at the starting point at the moment and I’m very happy about this.”
