Roundup of the latest Premier League action which saw the title race grow closer.

Leaders, Liverpool were not in league action due to their successful participation in the Carabao Cup Final against Chelsea, which was settled by Virgil van Dijk’s headed extra-time winner.

Second-placed Manchester City consequently reduced their deficit to a single point in the title race after Phil Foden netted a 24th minute winner at Bournemouth.

Sven Botman’s own-goal fired third-placed Arsenal to within two points of the summit with a 4-1 home win over Newcastle, with Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Jakub Kiwior also on target for the Gunners despite Joe Willock’s consolatory goal for the Magpies against his former team.

Leon Bailey’s 61st minute winner saw fourth-placed Aston Villa survive a fightback from Nottingham Forest to win 4-2, after Ollie Watkins’ early goal and Douglas Luiz’s brace initially put them 3-0 up prior to Moussa Niakhate and Morgan Gibbs-White’s valiant goals.

Down in the relegation zone, Sheffield United remain rock-bottom after they fell to a narrow defeat at Wolves through Pablo Sarabia’s 30th minute header.

Burnley remain second-bottom on goal difference following a 3-0 defeat at Crystal Palace who enjoyed a first win under new manager – Oliver Glasner on debut, through second-half goals from Chris Richards, Jordan Ayew and Jean-Philippe Mateta after Josh Brownhill’s red card for the visitors.

Third-bottom Luton weren’t in action due to Liverpool’s involvement in the Carabao Cup Final, which necessitated their clash at Anfield having been brought forward to Matchweek 25 with Jurgen Klopp’s Reds winning 4-1 at Anfield.

Elsewhere, Alex Iwobi’s injury-time strike secured Fulham a shock 2-1 win at Manchester United after Calvin Bassey’s effort was cancelled out by Harry Maguire’s equaliser, which marked the Cottagers’ first win at Old Trafford since October 2003.

Lewis Dunk’s 95th minute header rescued Brighton a 1-1 draw at home to Everton after Jarrad Branthwaite had put the Toffees ahead with a 15-yard strike, whilst Roberto De Zerbi’s Seagulls finishd with ten men after Billy Gilmour’s red card for a foul on Amadou Onana.

West Ham ended their recent rut with their first Premier League win over Brentford in a 4-2 victory at the London Stadium, in which Jarrod Bowen netted a hat-trick and Emerson Palmieri added their fourth despite goals from Neal Maupay and Yoane Wissa for the Bees.
