Palace Appoint Glasner as New Manager

Crystal Palace have appointed Oliver Glasner as manager following Roy Hodgson’s departure

Hodgson’s departure comes with Palace sat 16th in the Premier League and five points above the relegation zone, having taken just three wins in their last 19 matches in all competitions.

The 76 year-old manager however has left under difficult circumstances, having been taken ill during training last Thursday (15 February).

Glasner was subsequently appointed as Hodgson’s replacement, after nine months away from the sport following his departure from Eintracht Frankfurt after a two-season stint.

During his time at Frankfurt, Glasner led the team to Europa League success via penalties against Rangers in the 2021-22 Final, before they finished as DFB-Pokal runners-up last season and likewise in the UEFA Super Cup plus finished seventh in Bundesliga.

Speaking about his move to Palace, Glasner commented: “I am very happy to join Crystal Palace F.C. as manager. I am looking forward to working with the talented squad, meeting the club’s supporters and experiencing the Selhurst Park atmosphere I have heard so much about.

“It has been a pleasure to meet with Steve and Dougie, and I am looking forward to working with them to achieve our goals.”

Chairman, Steve Parish added: “I’m delighted to welcome Oliver to the club. He has an outstanding record, and we believe he is the right manager to take the club forward at this pivotal stage.

“Wherever Oliver has gone so far in his managerial journey, success has been quick to follow, and we believe his ambition, as well as his exciting and attacking approach, is the perfect fit for getting the most from our talented young squad in the remainder of this Premier League season and beyond.”

Glasner has signed a two-and-a-half year contract at Palace until the end of 2025-26 season, with his first match in charge coming at home to Burnley on Saturday 24 February at 3pm GMT.
