After a fortnight’s break, Burnley are back in Premier League action against Aston Villa at Turf Moor.
Victory would see Burnley climb out of the relegation zone, whilst Villa can go sixth with a win.
Team News
Anass Zaroury is suspended for Burnley after he was red carded during their opening defeat to Manchester City a fortnight ago.
Jordan Beyer (hamstring) is a doubt but Michael Obafemi (hamstring) and Darko Churlinov (unspecified) are ruled out.
Hannes Delcroix and Aaron Ramsey are in line for their debuts, although Ramsey’s bow could be against his former team if he features in this match.
Villa will be without midfielder, Philippe Coutinho after he suffered a hamstring injury during their win over Everton last weekend.
Goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez is a doubt after he suffered a calf injury during their midweek Europa Conference League Play-Off win at Hibernian.
Tyrone Mings (knee), Alex Moreno (hamstring), Leander Dendoncker (muscle), Tim Iroegbunam (unspecified), Emiliano Buendia (ACL) and Jacob Ramsey (foot) are all ruled out.
When is Kick-Off?
Burnley welcome Villa to Turf Moor in a 2pm BST kick-off on Sunday 27 August, live on Sky Sports in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Burnley have won just one of their last six matches against Aston Villa (W1, D3, L2).
- Villa have won two of their last five visits to Burnley (W2, D2, L1).
- Villa’s Emiliano Buendia scored in each of their last two meetings against Burnley (W1, L1), although he will miss this match due to injury.
- In their opening game of the season, no Burnley player had more touches on the ball than Dara O’Shea (63).
- Leon Bailey and Douglas Luiz has scored in each of Villa’s last two matches in all competitions.
Prediction
With a fortnight to reset after their difficult opening defeat against Manchester City, Burnley can come into this game full of confidence if they can build upon their attacking play with more end product, whilst tightening up defensively because small errors ultimately cost them a result.
Villa meanwhile have found their groove with two ruthless victories against Everton and Hibernian in the last week, of which the latter win was so clinical that they can put their eggs in this basket ahead of their home leg against Hibs.
I however do feel that Burnley could be a tough team to break down if the Clarets are defensively tight, yet Villa have already found form so I am backing them for the win but it won’t be as easy as their last two games.
Prediction: Burnley 1-2 Aston Villa
Result: Burnley 1-3 Aston Villa
