Defender, Tariq Lamptey has joined QPR on a free transfer.
Lamptey’s move to the Hoops came two months after he terminated his contract at Italy’s Fiorentina after he made just two appearances last season amidst an ACL injury.
The 25-year-old can’t wait to play with his new teammates after successful discussions with manager, Julien Stephan and CEO, Christian Nourry, which led him to sign a contract of an publicly undisclosed length.
“I’m excited for the opportunity ahead. When I spoke to the gaffer and Christian, the project was an encouraging one. The team have ambitious goals for this season, so I’m looking forward to it.”
Lamptey proceeded to speak of his excitement to play under Stephan as he added: “He’s worked with some great players who’ve gone on to do great things in the game. His resume speaks for itself. He’s a great coach, so I’m excited to work with him and learn from him.”
Lamptey iterated that he believes in himself with “high standards” but won’t be ready for first-team action until September due to his ACL injury, but is focused on getting back to fitness.
“My recovery has gone well and I’m not too far away now. I’m looking forward to joining with the boys. Throughout my football journey I’ve always been resilient.
“You can’t really predict what’s going to happen, but you can only put your best foot forward and prepare as well as possible. And that’s what I try to do.”
Once he is back in action, Lamptey revealed that fans can expect hard graft on the flanks and plenty of battles.
“I’m hardworking, I like to get up and down, a lot of energy, a lot of fun – hopefully I’ll keep the fans on the edge of their seats.
“I’m tough tackling, I love one-v-ones, defensive and attacking, I just love playing the game.”
Nourry added that he had enjoyed “good conversations” with Lamptey about his ambitions and how QPR can help him improve his game.
“We’ve had good conversations about what he wants to achieve and how he feels that this is the right environment for him to flourish in. With over 100 Premier League appearances to his name at 25, there is no doubting his talent.”

Lamptey began his career at Chelsea where he graduated through their academy to make three senior appearances before he went on to join Brighton in January 2020.
Across his five-and-a-half year spell at Brighton, Lamptey produced five goals and 16 assists in 122 total appearances across all competitions.
Lamptey represents Ghana at international level and has made 11 senior appearances for his country, despite having been born in Hillingdon, London, UK.
