Midfielder, Ryan Trevitt has rejoined Wigan Athletic on a free transfer following his release from Brentford.
Trevitt was released by the Bees when his contract expired on 30 June but remained with the club to conclude his recovery from a season-ending injury, having spent last season on loan at Wigan where he only made 14 appearances due to a serious thigh injury then hernia.
He has now made a full recovery and signed a two-year contract with Wigan on a permanent basis, which left the 23-year-old happy to have sorted his future out until at least June 2028.
“I am absolutely buzzing to get this over the line. The way last season ended, it wasn’t ideal, and I had it in my head that hopefully I would be back here.
“I am so excited to be back, and hopefully we can have a successful season.
“As soon as I heard the interest, I knew straight away that this place was the right place to be.
“I enjoyed my time here so much last season – it’s a massive Club with great fans, and all the people at the Club are good people.”
The move reunites him with Gary Caldwell under whom he has played for on loan across each of the last three seasons, having spent two seasons on loan at Exeter City between 2023-25 before he spent the second half of last season under him following Ryan Lowe’s sacking in February.
Trevitt is now excited to be playing under Caldwell on a permanent contract rather than loans as he praised the manager for allowing players to be expressive within a structure.
“I love playing for Gary. This is the third time I have had a stint under him, and I know exactly what he wants from me on the pitch and off the pitch.
“Gary gives you freedom to express yourself and show what you can do, whilst also being in a good structure. In the times I’ve played under him, I’ve done well, so hopefully I can continue that.
“I see this as a fresh start. I am doing every one per cent to be in the best condition and best shape, and I’ll make sure I’m at it.”
Trevitt also addressed his injury issues as he iterated that he is fully prepared for the new season.
“I feel really fit – I worked hard the whole summer, and I am ready to go.
“There’s nothing better than playing football every day, and having games week to week, so I cannot wait to get back into that rhythm.”
