Goalkeeper, Misa Rodriguez has joined Arsenal on a free transfer from Real Madrid.

Rodriguez’s arrival comes just weeks after she left Real Madrid upon expiry of her contract at Real Madrid which concluded a six-year spell at the Liga F club, where she kept 88 clean sheets in 215 appearances across all competitions.

“I’m so proud to join this great club,” commented Misa on her move to North London on an unspecified contract length. “Arsenal is one of the top clubs in the world and I’m really excited to be part of the team and take on this new challenge. I want to help us compete for trophies and make more history, together with our supporters.”

Misa also teased that fans can expect intensity and loud vocalism from her to aid her defence.

“I’m very intense. I like to be vocal and help the defence from behind. I understand the game very well – I try to adapt to what is needed in every moment of the game.”

Arsenal Women’s Head Coach, Renee Slegers added that Misa will compliment Daphne van Domselaar, Anneke Borbe and Isabella Damm in her goalkeeping selection.

“Misa is a top goalkeeper who has performed consistently at a high level for several years. As well as her technical attributes, she has great presence and communication on the pitch and we believe she’ll be a strong addition to our goalkeeping unit, alongside Daphne, Anneke and Isabella.”

Misa began her career with CD Femarguin at youth level before she went on to make her senior debut at Atletico Madrid, where she only managed two appearances in the 2018-19 season which was followed by a season at Deportivo de La Coruna.

The 27-year-old represents Spain at international level and has made 24 senior appearances for her country between 2021-24, and was part of their victorious 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup title-winning squad.
