Arsenal continued to move closer towards the title on a busy Easter weekend of Premier League action.
Comeback goals from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino saw Liverpool fight back to hold league leaders, Arsenal to a 2-2 draw at Anfield, after Mikel Arteta’s Gunners had led 2-0 within 28 minutes courtesy of goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus.
Erling Haaland’s brace ensured Manchester City moved six points behind in second place following a 4-1 win at rock-bottom Southampton, in which Jack Grealish and Julian Alvarez also netted for the Citizens despite Sekou Mara scoring a 72nd minute consolatory goal for the Saints.
Alexander Isak’s 61st minute strike clinched a comeback 2-1 win for third-placed Newcastle away at Brentford, after David Raya diverted Joelinton’s shot into his own net as the Magpies’ cancelled out Ivan Toney’s penalty – with Toney having initially seen a 29th minute penalty saved.
Strikes from Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial saw fourth-placed Manchester United comfortably defeat Everton at Old Trafford, which left Sean Dyche’s Toffees above the relegation zone on goal difference.
Down in the relegation zone, Leicester remain second-bottom as their winless run in all competitions extended to nine matches – following a 1-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth as Phillp Billing intercepted a 40th minute backpass from James Maddison and rifled in the winner.
Bournemouth’s victory consequently meant that Nottingham Forest fell to third-bottom after suffering a 2-0 defeat at Aston Villa, as Bertrand Traore and Ollie Watkins both scored for the Villains after half-time.
Leeds sit two points above the drop after losing 5-1 at home to Crystal Palace, having led through Patrick Bamford’s goal before Jordan Ayew struck twice to lead Palace’s comeback, with Marc Guehi, Eberechi Eze and Odsonne Edouard also on the scoresheet.
Elsewhere, Harry Kane secured a crucial 2-1 win for fifth-placed Tottenham at home to Brighton in a fierce contest, which saw Son Heung-min’s early curled opening goal cancelled out by Lewis Dunk before both managers were sent off for a hot-tempered touchline melee.
West Ham snatched a narrow win at Fulham to end their 11-match away rut in the league courtesy of Harrison Reed’s 23rd minute own goal, as the midfielder deflected Jarrod Bowen’s cutback pass into his own net.
Finally, Frank Lampard’s interim return as Chelsea manager got off to a disastrous start away at Molineux as Matheus Nunes smashed in a 31st minute winner for Wolves, which marked the Portuguese’s first goal since he joined from Sporting Lisbon last summer.
