2022-23 Premier League: Week 31 Roundup

A dramatic matchweek saw the Premier League title race grow closer, whilst the races for top-four and survival continued to deliver surprises.

League leaders, Arsenal again blew a two-goal lead away from home for the second consecutive week in a 2-2 draw at West Ham, in which Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard’s early goals were cancelled out by strikes from Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen.

Erling Haaland’s brace plus John Stones’ powerful fifth-minute goal saw Manchester City move within four points of the Gunners, following a 3-1 home win over second-bottom Leicester City.

Antony’s goal plus assist for Diogo Dalot saw Manchester United defeat third-bottom Nottingham Forest ina 2-0 win at the City Ground, which lifted Erik Ten Hag’s Red Devils up to third.

Newcastle consequently slipped to fourth after suffering a 3-0 mauling at sixth-placed Aston Villa, during which Ollie Watkins set up Jacob Ramsey’s 11th minute opening goal before he scored twice after half-time.

Down in the relegation zone, Southampton remain rock-bottom and four points from safety after they fell to a 2-0 home loss against Crystal Palace, courtesy of Eberechi Eze’s second-half brace for Roy Hodgson’s Eagles.

Everton remain above the bottom three on goal difference after losing 3-1 at home to Fulham, who ended their six-match winless streak in all competitions with second-half goals from Harry Wilson and Daniel James after Harrison Reed’s opener was cancelled out by Dwight McNeil.

Leeds remain two points above the drop after suffering a 6-1 defeat at home to Liverpool in Monday Night Football, during which Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota both scored twice whilst Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez netted the first and last goals respectively for the Reds.

Elsewhere, Dango Ouattara’s injury-time winner saw Bournemouth clinch a dramatic 3-2 win at Tottenham, after Matias Vina cancelled out Son Heung-min’s opening goal before Dominic Solanke put the Cherries ahead only for Arnaut Danjuma to level against his former team in 88th minute.

Julio Enciso struck a stunning 69th minute winner as Brighton came from behind to secure their first away win against Chelsea in the Premier League, after Danny Welbeck’s header had cancelled out Conor Gallagher’s deflected 13th minute strike.

Finally, Diego Costa and Hwang Hee-Chan both found the net as Wolves clinically defeated Brentford 2-0 at Molineux
