Williams Test Driver, Roy Nissany has switched from Trident to DAMS for 2021 Formula Two season.
Nissany endured a difficult 2020 season with Trident in which he collected just five points but now switches to DAMS, replacing his fellow Williams Academy member – Dan Ticktum who earlier this week moved to Carlin.
Speaking on securing his move to DAMS, Nissany said; “They have an amazing history at this level and a strong reputation in Formula 2, so I’m excited to be joining.
Nissany drove for the team in December’s 2020 post-season test in Bahrain, feeling that he has already contributed ‘some strong work’ in preparation for the upcoming season.
Having spent much of his career fighting at the back of the grid, the 26 year-old is targeting a massive improvement, as he said; “Hopefully we’ll be fighting at the front of the field. I believe we have a very exciting journey ahead so I’m keen to start.”
Joint DAMS owners, Gregory and Olivier Driot meanwhile are ‘very happy’ to sign Nissany after having worked with him during last month’s positive post-season test in which the Israeli driver ‘gelled’ well with the team and in particularly their engineering staff.
On the issue of Nissany’s poor F2 results and DAMS in contrast being a team expected to challenge for wins, Gregory and Olivier said; “Now it’s going to be up to us to provide the best tools for him to fulfil his potential.”
Nissany will partner Ferrari junior, Marcus Armstrong for the new 2021 season, which sees a new weekend format introduced and less rounds than in 2020.
Confirmation of Nissany’s move to DAMS also means that eight seats remain available with just over a month until pre-season testing takes place in Bahrain from 9-11 March 2021.
Nissany will also continue as Williams Test Driver this season with one day of pre-season running plus three FP1 sessions.
