Coventry City have signed defender, Ethan Pinnock from Brentford for an undisclosed transfer fee.
Pinnock’s move to Coventry has ended his seven-year spell at Brentford where he achieved promotion to the Premier League via Championship Play-Offs in 2021, and had scored 12 goals in 216 appearances.
Speaking to ccfc.co.uk about his move, Pinnock spoke of his excitement at a new chapter in his career.
“I’m really excited to join Coventry City and continue my footballing journey with this great club.
“After 25 years, the Club are back in the Premier League, and I know how much it must mean to everyone involved with the Club and the supporters. I can’t wait to be part of it.
“I’m really looking forward to getting to work and I can’t wait to meet everyone and represent this football club, especially at the Coventry Building Society Arena.”
Brentford Head Coach, Keith Andrews meanwhile told the Bees’ official website that he respected Pinnock for his talent on and off the pitch, and wished him well at Coventry.
“Ethan is someone I always admired from afar because of the journey he went on to become a Premier League footballer.
“He has been one of the modern-day greats of the club and I have always appreciated him for the qualities he has as a player and a man.
“We will miss him, but I sincerely wish him well in his next chapter.”
Brentford’s Director of Football, Phil Giles added that Pinnock “is a Brentford legend,” as he is the second-last member of their promotion-winning defence to leave the club, with only Rico Henry now still with the West London side.
“He was part of a fantastic group of players we signed in the summer of 2019 who elevated us from a mid-table Championship team to a side that could genuinely challenge for promotion.
“Without Ethan, there would be no guarantee we’d be where we are now, so for that reason he’ll always be welcome back at Brentford at any time.
“He now has the chance of a good contract at Coventry, who we have a lot of time and respect for after their recent promotion, so we wish Ethan and his new club well for this season and beyond.”
Pinnock began his career at Dulwich Hamlet where he netted 12 goals in 195 appearances between 2010-16 before he spent a season at Forest Green Rovers, which saw him net three goals in 45 appearances as they won promotion into the EFL via the 2017 National League Play-Offs.
He however joined Barnsley that summer in which he scored three goals in 67 appearances across two seasons before he switched to Brentford.
At international level, Pinnock has earned 28 senior caps for Jamaica since his debut in 2021.
