Williams have announced that Roy Nissany will continue as the team’s Test Driver for 2021 Formula One season.
Nissany joined Williams’ Young Driver Programme in 2020 and as Test Driver, the Israeli driver participated in three FP1 sessions across Spain, Italy and Bahrain alongside his F2 commitments with Trident before driving for the team during last month’s post season F1 test in Abu Dhabi.
He will this season once again participate in three FP1 sessions as well as undertake one day of pre-season running, alongside an increased simulator programme back at the factory in Grove.
Speaking on his decision to stay with Williams, Nissany said that he felt “truly honoured” to again be part of the team.
The 26 year-old also commented on the team’s progress saying; “Since we started, we have made huge progress across many areas – on top of the great FP1’s, we had a lot of productive work behind the scenes.”
Nissany also spoke the benefit of his role throughout 2020 in which he felt that he had “enhanced my skills and my capabilities as a driver.”
Williams Team Principal, Simon Roberts added that he is “pleased” to retain Nissany with the intention of “building on the good work we started last year.”
Roberts also praised Nissany for his contribution both on and off track which aided the lap time gains made with the FW43, whilst admitting that it was a joy to watch Nissany develop as a driver and believes that he “will continue to go from strength-to-strength this year.”
It is unclear if Nissany will return to Formula Two this season after collecting just five points during 2020 campaign, although the points haul was an improvement on his single point during 2019 F2 season.
