DAMS have announced that Ferrari junior, Marcus Armstrong will drive for the team in 2021 Formula Two season.

Armstrong joins DAMS after enduring a tough rookie season in 2020 with ART GP, in which he collected two podiums en route to a 13th placed Championship finish.

Speaking on his decision to sign for DAMS, Armstrong said “I’m very excited to be joining DAMS, it’s been a long time coming as there was a lot of interest in working together last season.”

Armstrong however acknowledged that F2 is a tough series and that momentum is key with a format change kicking in from this season, as he said; “Formula 2 is such a competitive championship and with only eight events it’s important to start on the right foot in an experienced team that’s used to winning.”

Having driven for the team during December’s post-season test in Bahrain, Armstrong spoke of how DAMS is capable of extracting ‘the best in people’ and have the resources required to give him a shot at the title.

The New Zealander also spoke of how his and DAMS’ targets for this season match, saying; “We’ve discussed that it’s not in my interest to finish second and they firmly agreed because they have the exact same targets.

“By no means is it going to be easy with such fierce competition, but I feel that when I’m in the right environment with a great team I can really do special things.”

Armstrong’s arrival however is one which DAMS have long fought for ahead of ‘an important year’, with Co-Team Owners, Gregory and Olivier Driot saying; “We have been following his career and his performance for several years so we are glad to finally join forces for this season.”

Gregory and Olivier also share Armstrong’s main ambition but iterated that their target includes not only the driver’s title, but also regaining the team championship too which they lost to PREMA last season following a disappointing campaign.

Armstrong’s performance in the post-season test last month in particular attracted praise with both Gregory and Olivier admitting that he provided ‘great feedback’ to the team and that everything so far within the driver and team partnership has been ‘positive’.
