2026-27 Premier League: Week Three – Ipswich vs Liverpool

Ipswich meet Liverpool in a Friday Night Football encounter in the 2026-27 Premier League.

Victory would lift Ipswich up to fifth in the table, whilst Liverpool can leapfrog the Tractor Boys and go fifth themselves with a win.

Team News

Zian Flemming could make his debut for Ipswich following his deadline-day move from Burnley.

Jaden Philogene (hamstring), Azor Matusiwa (muscle) and Jack Taylor (knee) remain absent.

Liverpool manager, Andoni Iraola could hand new signing, Bradley Barcola his debut following his move from PSG.

Federico Chiesa, Joe Gomez (both muscle), Giovanni Leoni (ACL), Conor Bradley (knee) and Hugo Ekitike (Achilles) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Ipswich host Liverpool at Portman Road on Friday 4 September at 8pm BST, live on Sky Sports Main Event and Premier League in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Ipswich are winless in their last five Premier League meetings against Liverpool (D1, L4).
  • Liverpool are unbeaten in their last six Premier League trips to Ipswich (W4, D2).
  • Ipswich’s four league goals this season have been scored by four different goalscorers – Emersonn, Jack Clarke, Leif Davis and Chuba Akpom.
  • Liverpool’s Alexander Isak has converted one of his three shots on target into a goal in two appearances this season.

Prediction

Having enjoyed a positive opening half-hour at Man Utd, Ipswich will be disappointed at the manner of their defensive collapse which began with a slip from Marcelino Nunez that led to the hosts going on to win 5-2, but they now need to put that aside and regroup as this is a chance at redemption.

Liverpool though do have defensive issues after their fight back from behind against Forest twice to draw at Anfield but their attack is definitely beginning to click, so Andoni Iraola just needs to find a solution to their defensive fragility which will be tested this months with five games in 16 days.

A win therefore is imperative for Iraola’s Reds but if Ipswich can take the positives from their defeat at Utd and don’t allow mistakes to trigger a defensive meltdown, I can see Gary O’Neil’s Tractor Boys causing a surprise here as they’ve got the attack to create issues.

Prediction: Ipswich 2-2 Liverpool
