League leaders, Middlesbrough suffered just their second defeat of the season as they lost 2-0 at Wrexham through second-half goals from George Thomasson and Ollie Rathbone.

Wolves climbed to second after Sean Neave’s late brace gifted them a 2-1 comeback victory at Bristol City after Scott Twine put the Robins into a 34th-minute lead.

First-half goals from Alex Cochrane, Max Bird and Jay Stansfield saw Birmingham climb to third with a 3-0 victory at home to Millwall.

Jack McGlynn’s free-kick plus Moussa Baradji’s own-goal saw Stoke climb to fourth with a 2-1 win at Blackburn, in which Andri Gudjohnsen netted a 87th-minute consolatory goal for the hosts.

Swansea consequently slipped to fifth with a 3-1 loss at Portsmouth in which Terry Devlin’s brace and Thomas Waddingham’s 98th-minute finish gave the hosts victory, despite Zan Vipotnik’s 85th-minute penalty having restored parity for the Swans.

West Brom and Southampton slipped to sixth and seventh after the pair played out a 1-1 draw at The Hawthorns, in which Isaac Price put the Baggies in front from a 22nd-minute penalty before Samuel Edozie netted the Saints’ equaliser shortly after half time.

Eighth-placed West Ham sacked Nuno Espirito Santo and appointed Scott Parker as Head Coach ahead of their eventual 3-3 draw at Cardiff, in which Jack Moylan’s first-half hat-trick put the Bluebirds in control before Divine Mukasa, Arne Engels and Max Kilman rescued the Hammers a point.

Down in the relegation zone, rock bottom Preston lost 3-2 against Sheffield United at Deepdale as Sydie Peck’s first-half hat-trick saw the Blades come from behind after Leo Leroy put the hosts in front, before Callum Lang netted a late consolatory goal for the Lilywhites.

Second bottom Derby suffered a heavy 4-0 loss at Pride Park against Norwich, as Anthony Musaba, Paris Maghoma and Darlin Yongwa put the Canaries in front before Jovon Makama sealed their win with a 66th-minute finish.

Third bottom Burnley were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw at QPR as Largie Ramazani fired the Clarets in front initially, before Jonathan Varane netted the Hoops equaliser in the second half.

Elsewhere, Stephy Mavididi’s 46th-minute strike proved enough for Watford to snatch victory against Lincoln City at Vicarage Road.
