Wrexham have signed right-back, Danny Imray from Crystal Palace for £5m.
Imray’s move marks an end to his time at Palace where he graduated through their academy but failed to break through into the first team in terms of competitive appearances, despite having featured in first-team pre-season preparations under new manager – Pierre Sage.
Palace however accepted a £5m offer from Wrexham for the 23-year-old who has signed a four-year contract at the Racecourse Ground until June 2030, having made his final appearance for Palace in a 3-0 pre-season friendly defeat at his former loan club – Bromley on 25 July.
In his first interview as a Wrexham player, Imray explained that he feels that the club are “on an upward trajectory” and capable of fighting for Premier League football.
“First and foremost, I think where this Club is going it’s definitely on an upward trajectory.
“It’s just everything about the Club really – everything behind the scenes. I’ve watched Welcome to Wrexham and it’s not just a Football Club that wants to do well on the pitch, but one that wants to do well off the pitch too.
“The community means a lot to the Club and I think that’s such a good way to be because without the fans, the clubs are nothing.
“There were loads of things that enticed me to come here, but the Club want to be in the Premier League and after speaking to the gaffer it’s just such an exciting project to be a part of.”
Imray began his career at Ilford and went on to represent Billericay Town then Chelmsford, of which he impressed in 19 appearances for the latter to earn a move to Palace in February 2021.
He subsequently joined their academy but returned to Chelmsford on loan in the second half of 2021-22 season, in which he scored one goal in 14 appearances, before he returned to Palace and broke through into the Under-21s setup.
August 2024 saw Imray secure a season-long loan at Bromley which proved successful as he delivered two goals and seven assists in 43 appearances, in a campaign which saw the Ravens finish 11th in their debut EFL campaign and reach the third round of the FA Cup where they lost 3-1 at Newcastle United.
His performances earned a step up to League One last season with Blackpool in a loan spell which saw him produce two goals and assists apiece in 16 appearances, before he was recalled and loaned out to West Bromwich Albion where he registered one goal and two assists in 17 appearances.
