Michael Cheek felt that Bromley found “performance” in their 1-1 draw against Peterborough at the CopperJax Community Stadium.
Cheek’s 10th-minute strike fired Bromley in front until Vernon Masara rescued Peterborough a point with his 93rd-minute equaliser, which left the Posh still sat 21st in the League One table whilst Webster’s Ravens moved up to 22nd with two games in hand.
Bromley though have two games in hand and will play the first of those two matches at Stadium MK as they visit MK Dons on Tuesday 27 October.
The 35-year-old forward post-match told BFC TV that he was pleased that the club have found performance in the wake of some difficult results, which led to Andy Woodman’s departure on Thursday (22 October), with Cheek excited at the new chapter under interim manager – Byron Webster.
“Yeah really close. I think that was 93rd minute wasn’t it? But the performance was there. That what had to come first. And the performance is there, nine times out of 10. The result’s there as well, but it wasn’t to be today so on to Tuesday.”
“I mean the gaffer, the old gaffer done a great job. His legacy will be remembered here for forever and I was part of that for most of my well all my time here. So yeah, I mean a new chapter has to start and Webster’s obviously come in and the performance has been there. So hopefully we can go again for him on Tuesday.”
Webster made a gamble to start Cheek and Victor Adeboyejo together up top which he felt was a good risk which led to more creativity and his first League One goal, and is keen to create more at MK Dons.
“I mean we haven’t often played two up top but I thought it worked well together today. Created a few chances and hopefully we can create some more.”
The match however was played in difficult conditions with strong winds and rain which led Cheek to quip that he had an extended shower post match, despite footballers having to naturally deal with all weather conditions during matches but was pleased with the chances in the conditions.
“Yeah just come out of the shower. I was in there for about 10 minutes as needed a hot shower, horrible. But yeah you’re gonna deal with all conditions and wasn’t nice, wasn’t pretty, but performance was there. Hopefully the rain and the winds not there on Tuesday and yeah hopefully we get three points.
“Yeah I think we still created chances. I think we frustrated them a lot, hit them on the counter. Have to just be more clinical, more ruthless when we get them chances. but yeah as I say it wasn’t to be, performance was there.”
Cheek also noted that he and his teammates must take any positives they can irrespective of the result.
“Of course we’ve got to take the positives win, lose or draw. Today was a draw, we go again.
