Andy Woodman believes that there are “twists and turns” ahead for Bromley after 2-2 draw at Barnet.

George Evans scored his first club goal in the 101st minute to salvage a 2-2 draw for Bromley, having initially led through Nicke Kabamba’s opener before Phillip Chinedu’s equaliser and Kabongo Tshimanga put Barnet ahead from behind despite Danny Collinge’s red card for an elbow on Omar Sowunmi.

Bromley however remain five points clear at the summit of League Two after MK Dons were held to a goalless draw at home against Barrow, although Woodman was pleased with the entertainment at The Hive as he spoke to Bromley’s YouTube channel post match.

“I thought it was an entertaining game if you weren’t a manager for both teams, that’s for sure. Um I thought we could have probably had our noses in front a little more at half time. Um, and we didn’t. And then we gave them a goal, which was a carbon copy of last week, which really frustrated me.

“Uh, a little bit of mix up in the wide area, blah, blah, blah, goal. So that was that. Gave them a lift and it was going to be hard. You know, with the wind going down this way I knew it was going to be tough. Um, but we kind of, you know, we just kind of made a couple of fundamental errors.

“I mean Kyle Cameron’s gave a penalty away which is, you know, score Brea by him. He knows that.”

The 54-year old manager proceeded to acknowledge that no game is going to be predictable across the country now the season is at its business end, as he added: “Um but it’s going to be twists and turns.

“There’s going to be stuff going on every game around the country now at this stage. And, um, we found a way again, you know, we found a way.

“We kept puffing and puffing. This team never seemed to give up. These boys never give up. And um, we got the draw which it feels like a win because when you’re that deep into injury time, you know, you just want to salvage something out of the game and that could be a very important point for us. Uh like some of the other draws.”

Kabamba’s goal came on the turn inside the box in the 12th minute and Woodman feels that “… if you pull the trigger in around the box, anything can happen. You know, deflections and bodies in the way of the goalie and you know, we’ve to make sure we keep doing that.

“So, that was a good goal and then listen, we got the Cinderella story at the end. George.”

Woodman was full of praise for Evans as he explained that the youngster’s introduction in the 100th minute was purely a gamble, as he admitted that his alternative plan was to chuck Will “Homer” Hondermarck up front.

“Yeah, I just said to the big fella just um it was throw caution to the wind. I was thinking about chucking Homer up top and I’ve got a 6’3 striker on the bench that’s a kid that uh I said ‘Just go and cause havoc. Just uncle calls have a you know um go and get us a goal, get us out of a bit of a problem and uh I was delighted for him cos he’s a fantastic kid.

He’s been training with us recently and he’s gone and scored today and it’s a really lovely story for him, his family and for me really, you know, another 18-year old that I put in the team and it comes out trumps.”

Evans has been part of the last four matchday squads following an injury to Michael Cheek and Woodman is chuffed that the 18-year old has been able to score in his second appearance, as he credited the academy for their work to nurture him.

“Proud moment for the academy and a proud moment for the staff. You know, I’m not going to take the credit for it.

“You know, the academy staff that have worked with George and nurtured him and also the loan teams that had him. You know he’s had a tough season with injuries. He had a couple of loans and that and so, you know, we got to thank the loan system and the loan teams that have helped him on his journey.

“Um, he’s off the mark and that’s a really positive thing for the young man.”

Woodman however was critical of his team’s performance in their first conceded goal as he lamented the lack of marking on the runner from a throw-in in the build-up to Chinedu’s finish.

“Well it wasn’t even a danger. It was in a wide area right on the touch line and one player stayed with the thrower and the other one hasn’t stayed with the runner. It’s a basic error by us which shouldn’t happen. Um and it happened at Barrow last week. So that was frustrating that really annoyed me.

“Um because other than that, they hadn’t really created anything in my opinion you know and I thought we were really good first half then we gave them a lift. Um but it was a good game you know and it was a game that we’ve got something out of.”

Woodman also issued a warning for future teams making the trip to Barnet, as he continued: “Thank god it’s going to be tough coming to Barnet. It’s not easy. Dino knows how to set his team up. He’s a competitive manager. His teams are competitive team. Both benches are competitive and both teams are trying to get the win.

“No one’s kind of trying to get the draw. So it’s always a tough place to come and it’s a really good point for me.”

The fact that Bromley conceded a penalty against the ten-men Bees once Collinge was red carded also didn’t escape Woodman’s annoyance, but he acknowledged that Collinge’s elbow on Sowunmi wasn’t intentional.

“Yeah it wasn’t the second half I wanted and you know, the sending off causes a problem and it was a sending off, you know, and I know the player, you know, he’s a decent human being. I know um it wasn’t done with any nastiness, but that’s the rules. I am going to appeal, you know, appeal for anything like that against my players.

“It galvanized them though and we struggled and then we gave away a penalty, which is a stupid penalty by the way.”

Bromley now will prepare to host Shrewsbury at home on Tuesday 7 April but Woodman is wary that there are still plenty of twists and turns brewing until promotion is mathematically finalised.

“They’re all tough. They all have twists and turns. I mean, I’ve looked at the results today. There are twists and turns everywhere. There’ll be twists and turns. It’s another game gone and another game that we’re still where we are, you know.

“So, um, just got to keep going. It’s uh heart in your mouth time, isn’t it, for everyone?”
