2025-26 Sky Bet Championship: Week 40 Roundup

Roundup of Good Friday action across the Sky Bey Championship as the 2025-26 run-in commenced. 

Jack Rudoni’s second-half brace saw leaders, Coventry beat Derby 3-2 at the CBS Arena after Frank Onyeka opened the scoring in the 12th minute, before Ben Brereton Diaz scored twice for the Rams either side of Rudoni’s first goal.

Josh Coburn’s second-half brace saw Millwall come from behind to beat Middlesbrough 2-1 to go second, after Dael Fry had nodded the hosts in front at half time.

Ipswich consequently slipped to fourth after their trip to Southampton was postponed until 28 April due to the Saints’ FA Cup involvement this weekend.

Cameron Brannagan’s penalty rescued second-bottom Oxford United a 1-1 draw at home to fifth-placed Hull City, after Mohamed Belloumi fired the Tigers into a fourth-minute lead.

Wrexham rounded out the top six with a second-half comeback in a 2-2 draw at West Brom, in which Josh Windass and George Dobson salvaged a point after Dobson’s own-goal and Josh Maja’s penalty had put the Baggies in control at half time.

Elsewhere, Leicester remained third-bottom after Patson Daka scored twice in a 2-2 draw at home to Preston after Andrew Moran and Ben Whiteman put the visitors in front following Daka’s opening goal.

Pelle Mattsson’s own-goal ensured Portsmouth stayed one point above the relegation zone in a 1-1 draw at Norwich, having initially fell behind to Mattsson’s opener for the Canaries.

Todd Cantwell’s 69th-minute finish handed Blackburn a 1-0 victory at Birmingham City to move six points clear of the drop.

Noah Eile’s finish secured Bristol City a 2-1 victory for new interim manager, Roy Hodgson away at Charlton, after Scott Twine’s opening goal was cancelled out by Lyndon Dykes.

Rayan Kolli and Paul Smyth found the net for QPR in a 2-1 victory at home to Watford, despite Imran Louza’s late consolatory effort for the Hornets.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and Lamine Cisse’s goals saw Stoke record a 2-0 win over relegated Sheffield Wednesday at the BET365 Stadium.

Late goals from Adam Idah and Eom Ji-Sung saw Swansea snatch a 3-3 draw at Sheffield United after Harrison Burrows and Tom Cannon put the Blades in firm control, having initially seen Gustavo Hamer’s opener cancelled out by Zan Vipotnik’s 24th-minute penalty.
