Down in the relegation zone, relegated Sheffield Wednesday suffered a 2-0 loss at Norwich through first-half goals from Mathias Kvistgaarden and Paris Maghoma.

Second-bottom Oxford United slipped six points adrift of safety after they fell to a 2-1 loss at Stoke through Jesurun Rak-Sakyi’s winner for the Potters, after Ciaron Brown had pulled the Us level to cancel out Lamine Cisse’s ‘s finish.

West Brom sit a point above the bottom three after George Campbell’s opener was cancelled out by Lyndon Dykes in a 1-1 draw at home to Charlton, which cost their boss – Eric Ramsay his job after just nine matches in which he failed to win a single match.

Elsewhere, Kuryu Matsuki’s brace plus goals from Finn Azaz, Leo Scienza and James Bree saw Southampton thrash QPR 5-0 at St Mary’s Stadium.

Scott Twine netted a 31st-minute winner for Bristol City in a 2-1 comeback victory at Blackburn after Emil Riis Jakobsen cancelled out Yuki Ohashi’s sixth-minute opener.

Liam Cullen’s 95th-minute finish rescued Swansea a 1-1 draw at home to Preston, after Daniel Jebbison had put the visiting Lilywhites into a 26th-minute lead.
