West Bromwich Albion have sacked Eric Ramsay as manager after a disastrous nine-game spell in charge of the club.

Ramsay was appointed manager on 11 January after the Baggies beat Swansea on penalties in the third round of this season’s FA Cup, but failed to win any of his nine matches in charge across all competitions as West Brom suffered a 3-1 defeat in the fourth round of the cup competition at Norwich.

He also failed to win any of his eight league matches in charge, during which the club claimed four draws and four losses, of which their 1-1 draw at home to Charlton proved the final straw for the club’s board, after George Campbell put them ahead before Lyndon Dykes rescued a point for the Addicks.

Club bosses subsequently acted swiftly to dismiss Ramsay with the club left 21st in the Championship table without a win in 10 league matches, and a single point above the relegation zone, whilst James Morrison has been put in interim charge as a search for a new manager commences.

In a club statement, the board expressed their thanks to Ramsay and his Assistant Head Coach, Dennis Lawrence and confirmed Morrison’s interim appointment as manager.

“West Bromwich Albion have parted company with men’s first team Head Coach Eric Ramsay.

“Assistant Head Coach Dennis Lawrence has also departed The Hawthorns.

“The club would like to place on record its thanks to Eric and Dennis and wishes them well for the future.

“First Team Coach James Morrison will oversee first-team affairs on an interim basis.”
