Nottingham Forest have appointed Sean Dyche as their new manager until June 2027.
Dyche’s appointment came after Ange Postecoglou was sacked on Saturday (18 October) following a 3-0 defeat at home to Chelsea, having failed to win any of his eight matches in charge across all competitions in a 39-day reign.
The move sees Dyche return to his former club – having previously played for Forest at youth level – and having signed a 20-month contract until June 2027, he will take charge of his first game as the Tricky Trees’ manager on Thursday 23 October as Forest host Porto in the UEFA Europa League.
Forest also confirmed on their club website that ex Forest players – Ian Woan and Steve Stone will be part of Dyche’s coaching team as had been the case at Burnley and Everton.
Forest proceeded to praise Dyche as “a respected and experienced Premier League manager,” who will bring “the perfect blend of character, tactical acumen and proven achievement to guide the Club through its next chapter.”
The club continued to speak of Dyche’s playing style as they praised him for his focus on defensive play and set pieces, which aligned closely with the club’s vision and was a key part behind securing European qualification at the end of last season.
“Having managed more than 330 Premier League matches in his career to date, Dyche has built teams defined by defensive organisation, resilience, and strength from set pieces — qualities that align closely with the current squad’s attributes and the Club’s footballing identity.”
Forest added that Dyche’s local presence and youth career with the club enables him to have “a deep understanding of the values and pride of Forest and its supporters.
“With his character, tactical acumen and man-management skills, his appointment represents the best opportunity for a successful and competitive season across both domestic and European competitions.”
