Son Heung-min has completed a £20m transfer from Tottenham to Los Angeles Football Club.
Son announced his Tottenham exit last Saturday (31 July) ahead of his final appearance in Seoul, South Korea, as Spurs drew 1-1 against Newcastle United in a pre-season friendly on 1 August.
The South Korea international has since completed a £20m transfer to Los Angeles FC, which ended a decade at Tottenham where he scored 173 goals and contributed 101 assists in 454 appearances, and was part of their title-winning Europa League squad last season.
Speaking upon confirmation of his move to LA, Son spoke of his excitement at joining a club “with big ambitions” in the MLS.
“I’m incredibly proud to be joining LAFC, a club with big ambitions in one of the most iconic sports cities in the world,” commented Son.
“Los Angeles has such a rich history of champions, and I am here to help write the next chapter. I’m excited for this new challenge in MLS. I have come to L.A. to lift trophies and give everything for this club, this city, and its fans. I cannot wait to get started.”
Son has signed a two-year contract until June 2027 but there are options to extend his stay up to June 2029.
Spurs Chairman, Daniel Levy shared a personal tribute to Son in which he spoke of the forward as an icon and thanked him for his commitment to the club throughout his time in North London.
“Sonny is one of the greatest players to ever wear the famous Lilywhite shirt and he has been a joy to watch over the past decade. Not only is he a wonderfully gifted footballer, but he’s also an incredible human being who has touched hearts and inspired people throughout the Club and all over the world.
“The Europa League triumph in Bilbao was a truly magical moment in the Club’s history and Sonny lifting the trophy is a perfect lasting memory from his fantastic decade at Tottenham Hotspur.
“Sonny has given so much to this Club, both on and off the pitch, and for that we are forever grateful. We wish him all the best for the future, and he will always be welcome back at the Club as a beloved and cherished member of our Spurs family.”
The move has reunited Son with ex Tottenham goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris.
