Five Key Pointers
- Hot temperatures are forecast across the weekend which could pose a challenge for Mercedes whose car suffer rear-tyre overheating in high track temperatures.
- Williams need to find a way to stop their pace dropping across the weekend if want to unlock more points, after recent positive Friday Practice form fell away across Qualifying and race.
- After McLaren threw away a potential podium in Canada through strategic swap indecision which led to Norris’ collision with Piastri, it will be interesting to see if they prioritise the team game if a situation arises here.
- Located at 677 metres above sea level, the Red Bull Ring will pose issues in terms of temperature management of brakes and power units which could mean reliability playing a part this weekend.
- With plenty of overtaking opportunities available at the Red Bull Ring, there is opportunity for tyre strategies to potentially prove crucial to the eventual result.
Last Time Out
Verstappen dominated the race in 2024 from Norris who kept the Dutchman under immense pressure until he attempted an overtake for the lead at turn 3 on Lap 64, only for Verstappen to slam his car into his then title rival to hand victory to Mercedes’ George Russell for the Brit’s first Austrian win.
Verstappen earlier that weekend had won the sprint race in comfortable fashion from Piastri.
