Wrexham have signed forward, Ryan Hardie from Plymouth Argyle for an undisclosed transfer fee.
Hardie spent the last five-and-a-half years at Plymouth – initially on loan from January 2020 to June 2021 – across which he scored 74 goals in 248 total appearances as the Pilgrims won promotion to League One in summer 2020 via points–per-game ruling then to Championship in 2023.
The 28-year-old Stranraer-born forward however couldn’t help Plymouth avoid relegation back to the third tier last season – despite finishing the campaign as their top goalscorer with 12 goals in all competition, including a memorable fourth-round winner at home to Liverpool in the FA Cup.
Wrexham however won promotion to the Championship at the end of last season and have swooped to add second-tier firepower experience in Hardie, who has 22 goals in 77 Championship appearances across the last two seasons.
Following confirmation of his transfer, Hardie said that he is “delighted” to be staying in the Championship and have a full pre-season with Wrexham, which he hopes will enable him to perform to the standards expected of the club badge and community.
“I’m delighted to get the move done, I’m really happy to get it done so early and I cannot wait to get going.
“To get a full pre-season will be a massive benefit, to get integrated into the squad and learn the way the manager plays and get to know everyone will be important.
“The last couple of seasons, it’s been good getting experience in the EFL Championship and it’s experience I can lean on now. I’ve enjoyed playing there, and I’ve managed to score a few goals, so hopefully that can continue this season.
“I love how family-oriented the Club is, the community is all together and it really is a one-club City. Everything is to do with the football, and I’m really excited to be a part of that – I’ll give everything I’ve got for the badge.”
Hardie began his career at Rangers where he made his debut in 2014 and went on to score twice in 17 appearances amidst two loan stints at Raith Rothers and Livingston – during which they got promoted to Scottish Premiership – plus a half-season loaned out to St Mirren in 2016.
July 2019 saw Hardie move to Blackpool where he only managed one goal in 12 appearances before he was loaned out to Plymouth, where he helped them win promotion in his initial six-month loan stint in League Two.
