AFC Bournemouth have signed French left-back, Adrien Truffert from Rennes for £14m.

Andoni Iraola’s Cherries swooped for Truffert as a direct replacement for Milos Kerkez, with the Hungary international reportedly close to completing his transfer to Liverpool after weeks of negotiations between clubs.

Truffert has signed a five-year contract until June 2030 with Rennes having received a £11m fee, which will be followed by £3m in add-ons once various clauses are activated for the left-back who has departed the Ligue 1 club with nine goals in 191 appearances.

Addressing his decision to join Bournemouth in an interview with afcb.co.uk. Truffert is “really happy” to complete his move to the Cherries, where he hopes to continue his development in the Premier League.

“It’s a great opportunity for me to keep progressing and to be part of an ambitious project. I felt the club’s confidence in me from the first discussions, and I’m excited to get started.

“It’s a dream for any player to play in the Premier League. It’s one of the best and most competitive leagues in the world. I’m looking forward to testing myself at this level, facing top players every week, and helping the team achieve great things.”

Bournemouth’s President of Football Operations, Tiago Pinto added that the club are “delighted” to bring Truffert in ahead of Kerkez’s heavily-anticipated exit, having monitored the Frenchman for an extensive period.

“Adrien is a player that we’ve admired for some time and he brings significant experience to the squad despite still being just 23 years of age.

“We’re excited to work with Adrien and are thrilled to have a player of such quality join us as we look to build on a record-breaking season for the club.”

Truffert began his career at Rennes where he made 15 appearances for their B-Team between 2018-21, although he was promoted to the senior squad in the 2020-21 season where he made 34 appearances as he quickly established himself in the first team.

The 23-year-old has represented France at all age levels and earned his first senior cap as a substitute in a 2-0 loss to Denmark in September 2022, whilst he also helped Les Bleus to silver medal in 2024 Olympics.
