Norwich City have signed defender, Harry Darling on a free transfer from Swansea City.
Darling will depart the Swans upon expiry of his contract on 30 June having scored 12 goals in 112 appearances, and will officially complete his transfer to Norwich on 1 July on a three-year contract until June 2028 with an option for a further year,
The move also reunites Darling with manager, Liam Manning who was in charge of his former team, MK Dons in 2021-22 season, which saw the Dons fall short in the League One Play-Offs that season.
In his first interview with canaries.co.uk, Darling revealed that he is “delighted” to join Norwich and work under Manning once more.
“Liam being in charge, I worked with him before at MK Dons so I didn’t need convincing too much about the style of play. I really enjoyed it last time working with him.”
The 25-year-old also iterated that fans can expect leadership from him given his substantial Championship experience from his time at Swansea.
“I like to bring a lot of leadership qualities. I’ve got a lot of experience at the level now, so if I can help the boys in anyway I can, then I want to try and do that. Experience, leadership, things like that.”
Norwich’s Sporting Director, Ben Knapper added that the club are “absolutely thrilled” to sign Darling amidst tough competition from rival clubs.
“There was of course big competition for Harry’s signature, so we’re delighted to secure his services and it’s great that he sees us as the best place to commit his long-term future to.
“He’s coming into the prime years of his career, knows the league and has a lot of experience at this level. He’s a proven performer and he also has a real hunger and desire to progress, and help move our football club forward.
“Above all else, he’s also a great person, and his character and personality will be a great fit for our environment.”
Darling began his career at Cambridge where he scored three goals in 73 appearances amidst loan spells at Bishops Stortford, Hampton & Richmond Borough, Royston and East Thurrock United.
