Roundup of October’s action in the 2024-25 League One season.

Birmingham City continued to dominate the top of the table whilst Mansfield, Wrexham and Wycombe scrapped over second position.

The relegation zone stayed largely stable but one team began to make inroads towards the safety mark.

 

Week Nine

Alfie May’s 63rd minute winner saw Birmingham stay top with a 1-0 win at home to Huddersfield.

Wrexham slipped five points behind in second following a surprise 1-0 loss at Stevenage, as Louis Thompson struck a 10th minute winner for the hosts.

Lee Gregory and Ben Waine found the net as Mansfield won 2-0 at fourth-bottom Crawley to move up to third.

Substitute, Tom Hamer salvaged a 1-1 draw for fourth-placed Lincoln City at sixth-placed Blackpool, following Kyle Joseph’s opener for the Tangerines after a red card for the Imps’ Adam Jackson.

Ethan Pye and Kyle Wootton struck late in both halves as Stockport won 2-0 at third-bottom Shrewsbury, which put them up to fifth in the table.

Down in the relegation zone, Cambridge remained rock bottom following a 1-0 home loss to Rotherham, as Sam Nombe turned in a 92nd minute winner for the Millers.

Danilo Orsi’s consolatory goal couldn’t prevent fourth-bottom Burton Albion losing 3-1 at Reading, in which Chem Campbell struck twice before Sam Smith sealed the win.

Leyton Orient sit above the drop by one point after a 1-0 home loss to ten-men Exeter City, following Amani Richards’ winner and a red card for Caleb Watts.

Elsewhere, Dale Taylor’s brace plus Callum McManaman’s effort saw Wigan beat Peterborough 3-0 at home.

Goals from John McAtee, George Thomason, Eoin Toal and Dion Charles fired Bolton to an eventual 4-2 win at Northampton, despite injury-time goals from the hosts’ Tom Eaves and Jon Guthrie.

Scott Sinclair, Jamie Lindsay and James Wilson fired Bristol Rovers to a 3-2 home win over Charlton, despite a late fightback from the Addicks through Alex Mitchell’s header and Matty Godden’s volley.

Stephen Humphrys and Marc Roberts cancelled out goals from Beryly Lubala and Richard Kone, as Barnsley twice fought back in a 2-2 draw at home to Wycombe.

 

Week 10

Godden’s 54th minute winner saw Charlton stun league leaders, Birmingham 1-0 at The Valley.

Wrexham duly took advantage of Birmingham’s loss with a 4-1 home win over Northampton, in which James McLean scored twice whilst Jack Marriott and Elliot Lee were also on the scoresheet.

Will Evans’ first-half brace saw Mansfield end Blackpool’s unbeaten start to life under Steve Bruce.

Jovon Makama and Freddie Draper found the net as Lincoln City beat Leyton Orient 2-1, after Dan Agyei denied the Imps a clean sheet.

Fred Onyedinma’s 23rd minute winner lifted Wycombe up to fifth with a 1-0 win over fourth-bottom Crawley.

Stockport rounded out the top six with a goalless draw at home to Wigan.

Down in the relegation zone, Cambridge again propped up the table with a 1-0 loss at Exeter City, courtesy of Ryan Woods’ 23rd winner for the Grecians.

Second-half goals from Shaq Forde, Clinton Mola and Grant Ward saw Bristol Rovers come from behind to win 3-1 at second-bottom Burton, after Orsi had put the Brewsters ahead.

Shrewsbury moved up to third-bottom with a 2-2 draw at Bolton, as Josh Feeney and Jordan Shipley put the Shrews 2-0 up at half-time before Kyle Dempsey and Szabolcs Schon pulled the Trotters level.

Elsewhere, late goals from Ben Wiles and David Kasumu fired Huddersfield to a 2-0 home win over Yorkshire rivals, Barnsley.

Nombe and Hakeem Odoffin struck early in the second half to secure a comeback 2-1 win at home to Reading, after Lewis Wing had put the Royals ahead but the visitors finished a man down after Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan’s red card.

Kwame Poku fired Peterborough to a 94th minute win over Stevenage by a 2-1 result at home, after Donay O’Brien-Brady’s early goal was cancelled out by Thompson.

 

Week 11

With several fixtures postponed due to October’s international stage, Shrewsbury moved above ten-men Crawley in the relegation zone with a 5-3 away win in which John Marquis and George Lloyd struck twice for the Shrews.

Joe Rafferty’s own-goal and Emmanuel Fernandez’s strike saw Peterborough snatch a 3-3 draw at home to Rotherham, having led through James Dornelly only for Nombe, Mallik Wilks and Jonson Clarke-Harris to put the Millers ahead at half-time.

 

Week 12

Keshi Anderson’s brace and Willum Willumsson’s effort saw Birmingham stay top with a comeback 3-1 win at Lincoln City, following Bailey Cadamarteri’s early opening goal.

Paul Mullin’s strike after just 16 seconds proved enough for Wrexham to win 1-0 at Rotherham.

Kone’s hat-trick saw Wycombe go third with a 3-1 win at home to Peterborough, with Ricky Jade-Jones having initially put the Posh ahead but Fernandez was red carded for handball prior to Kone’s third goal.

Jake Young’s 32nd minute free-kick saw Stevenage demote Mansfield to fourth with a 1-0 win at Field Mill.

Kamari Doyle and Josh Magennis’ goals lifted Exeter up to fifth with a 2-0 win at fourth-bottom Shrewsbury.

Matty Pearson, Callum Marshall and Bojan Radulovic fired Huddersfield up to sixth with a 3-1 home win over Bristol Rovers.

Down in the relegation zone, Cambridge moved off the foot of the table with a 2-0 home win over Wigan, with first-half goals from Elias Kachunga and Sam Tickle.

Orsi’s consolatory goal couldn’t prevent Burton dropping to rock-bottom with a 2-1 loss at Bolton, after Aaron Collins and Randell Williams struck for the Trotters.

Harry Forster’s effort couldn’t prevent third-bottom Crawley losing 4-1 at Reading, as Lewis Wing, Charlie Savage and Sam Smith sealed victory after Forster had cancelled out Amadou Mbengue’s opener.

Elsewhere, Roberts scored a 92nd minute winner as Barnsley won 2-1 at Blackpool after David Keillor-Dunn’s opener was cancelled out by Olly Casey.

Rarmani Edmonds-Green rescued a 1-1 draw for Charlton at home to ten-men Stockport, who led through Louis Barry’s penalty but Fraser Horsfall was red carded in the 87th minute.

Cameron McGeehan netted a 48th minute winner as Northampton Town scraped a 1-0 home win over Leyton Orient.

 

Week 13

Tomoki Iwata and Jay Stansfield fired league leaders, Birmingham to a 2-0 home win over Bolton.

Second-placed Wrexham were held to a frustrating goalless draw at home to fifth-placed Huddersfield.

Dan Udoh netted a 81st minute winner for Wycombe in a 3-2 win at rock-bottom Burton, after Gideon Kodua and Luke Leahy twice put the Chairboys ahead despite equalisers from Orsi and Charlie Webster.

Evans and Keanu Baccus found the net as Mansfield won 2-1 at Wigan despite Thelo Aasgaard’s equaliser for the Latics.

Exeter rounded out the top six on goal difference following a 2-1 home loss to seventh-placed Reading, as Jayden Wareham and Michael Craig netted first-half goals for the visiting Royals.

Down in the relegation zone, Korey Smith and Sully Kaikai fired second-bottom Cambridge to a 2-0 win away to Stevenage.

Lindsay’s 52nd minute winner saw Bristol Rovers scrape a home victory over Shrewsbury.

Crawley took advantage of Shrewsbury’s defeat to go fourth-bottom with a 3-0 home win over Lincoln City, with Will Swan, Ronan Darcy and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy on the scoresheet.

Leyton Orient sat one point above the bottom four with a 1-0 home win over Rotherham through Dan Happe’s 68th minute winner.

Elsewhere, Joel Randall’s brace plus goals from Malik Mothersille, Poku and Jones fired Peterborough to a 5-1 home win over Blackpool.

Tyler Magloire’s 93rd minute header cancelled out Barry’s 87th minute penalty as Northampton snatched a 1-1 draw at Stockport.

Max Watter’s 95th minute equaliser saw Barnsley snatch a 2-2 draw at home to Charlton, after Luke Berry’s brace put the Addicks on cusp of a comeback victory following Keillor-Dunn’s opening goal.

 

Week 14

Weekend

Willumsson’s 10th minute effort was cancelled out by Gregory as fourth-placed Mansfield fought back to draw 1-1 at home to league leaders, Birmingham.

Wycombe cut their title deficit to two points with a 3-0 home win over Leyton Orient, as Onyedinma, Udoh and Cam Humphreys found the net.

Conor Coventry’s own-goal and Andy Cannon’s effort saw Wrexham slip to third with a 2-2 draw at Charlton, after Macaulay Gillesphey’s header and Godden’s injury-time penalty saw the Addicks twice equalise to salvage a point apiece.

Pearson and Wiles’ goals saw Huddersfield beat Exeter 2-0 at home to stay fifth.

Reading rounded out the top six following Smith’s winner in a 1-0 home victory over Bristol Rovers.

Down in the relegation zone, Cambridge moved up to fourth-bottom with a 1-0 home win over rock-bottom Burton through Jordan Cousins’ winner.

Jonathan Russell and Watters found the net as Barnsley won 2-0 at second-bottom Shrewsbury.

Crawley sat third-bottom following a 3-0 loss at Northampton as Fosu and Mitch Pinnock netted, either side of Jay Williams’ own-goal.

Elsewhere, own-goals from Jason Kerr and Will Aimson rescued Blackpool a 2-2 draw at home to Wigan, after Dion Rankine and Matt Smith had put the Latics 2-0 ahead in the opening 41 minutes.

Ben House and Cadamarteri’s goals saw Lincoln City clinch a 2-1 comeback home win over Stockport, after Isaac Olaofe put the visitors into a ninth minute lead.

Klaidi Lolos bundled in a 99th minute winner as Bolton scraped a last-gasp 1-0 home win over Peterborough.

Jordan Hugill and Wilks’ quick-fire goals saw Rotherham beat Stevenage 2-0 at home.

 

Midweek

Comeback goals from Hamer and Erik Ring fired Lincoln City up to fifth with a 2-1 win at home to Northampton, who had led through Tariq Fosu but finished a man down after Tyler Roberts’ red card.

Ricardo, McAtee, Victor Adeboyejo and Charles found the net to lift Bolton into sixth with a 4-1 win at Stevenage, despite Dan Kemp’s consolatory effort for the hosts.

Stockport ended their four-match winless run with a 4-1 home win over Reading, as Will Collar and Wootton scored either side of Campbell’s equaliser before Barry’s brace completed the home win.
