Brentford defender, Val Adedokun has joined Hungary’s Diosgyori VTK on a season-long loan.

Adedokun has been part of Brentford’s B team since he joined in August 2021 and became captain last season with 33 starts in 34 appearances during which he produced four goals and contributed two assists.

The 21 year-old also featured in five senior matches in the Premier League last season as an unused substitute, with B-team Head Coach – Neil MacFarlane welcoming this loan move for Adedokun.

“This is a fantastic move to a top side in a very competitive league. He has been fantastic ever since he joined the B team.

“He has continued to develop each year and has become a very mature player. Last year he captained our side and won Player of the Year, so he is ready for this next step.

“We wish him the very best of luck as this is a great next step for his career.”

Adedokun meanwhile spoke to Diosgyori VTK’s website in which he spoke of feeling “very proud” to join on a season-long loan, despite this marking his first experience of Hungarian football at club level.

“Previously, I only saw Hungarian teams in international cups who made a good impression on me, so I think OTP Bank Liga is a competitive league and the year in Diósgyőr is useful for my career.”

Adedokun added that he is capable of getting stuck into the attacking side of the game despite being a defender.

“As a left-back, of course, my primary task is to defend, but I like to do my part in attack, go forward and give an assist or even score a goal when the opportunity arises.”

Having been sidelined through injury, Adedokun had already witnessed his new loan team in action and is confident that he can perform within the team.

“I saw the season opener against Paks on the spot, where my teammates also made a good impression on me. They played confidently and I feel I can do well in their company.

“I’m excited for the first match, because I already got a taste of the atmosphere of the games in Diósgyőr. The ultras cheered very loudly, the crowd created a wonderful atmosphere, I want to play in these conditions.”
