F1 and FIA have brought forward the start time for the 2026 Miami Grand Prix forward in anticipation of a serious storm forecast for late afternoon.

With rain forecast throughout race day but expected to worsen with thunder and lightning anticipated for mid-late afternoon, F1 and FIA have decided to bring forward the race start time to 13:00pm local time (6pm BST) from its initial 16:00pm (9pm BST) start.

“Following discussions between FIA, F1 and the Miami promoter, the decision has been taken to move the start of Sunday’s Miami Grand Prix to 13:00 local time in Miami due to the weather forecast that is expected to bring heavier rainstorms later in the afternoon close to the original planned race start time,” explained FIA, F1 and Miami GP in a joint statement.

“This decision has been taken to ensure the least amount of disruption to the race, and to ensure the maximum possible window to complete the Grand Prix in the best conditions and to prioritise the safety of drivers, fans, teams and staff.”

Mercedes’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli will start the race from pole position alongside two-time Miami race winner, Max Verstappen in second.

F2’s Feature Race has now also been rescheduled to 9:25am local time (2:25pm BST).
