McLaren’s Lando Norris was pleased with his “mega” pace in a dominant victory at 2024 Singapore Grand Prix.
Norris led from lights to flag without conceding the lead at any point of the race but missed out on the bonus point for fastest lap, which went to his ex teammate – Daniel Ricciardo.
The result left Norris 52 points behind Max Verstappen with six rounds left; consisting of six Grands Prix and three sprints and a maximum of 180 points up for grabs across those races.
Norris though was “happy” with his dominant driver and “amazing performance” in Marina Bay, having finished second to Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz in 2023 at the same venue in a closer finish than his win.
“The car was mega so I could push. We were fast throughout the whole race, and at the end, I could focus to see it out.”
The 24 year-old however did encounter a few brushes with the walls but was relieved to finish 20.945 seconds clear of Verstappen.
“It was still a very tough race with a few too many close calls. It was very easy to lock-up a tyre – which I did a couple of times, but I was pushing because I wanted to have the biggest lead possible.”
Norris’ teammate, Oscar Piastri finished third to extend McLaren’s lead over Red Bull in the constructors’ standings to 41 points, with the Brit praising Piastri for beating both Mercedes drivers with a lengthy opening stint and overtakes.
“It’s nice to have Oscar on the podium too. He drove well, and we got a lot of points, so a good way to thank the team for their hard work.”
