Tottenham Hotspur entertain Brentford in a London derby at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Victory would take Tottenham up to fourth following Aston Villa’s loss on Tuesday evening, whilst Brentford can go 12th after Fulham failed to win on Tuesday evening.
Team News
Pape Matar Sarr is unavailable for Tottenham despite Senegal’s exit at the Africa Cup of Nations on Monday (29 January), with the midfielder not expected to return to North London prior to kick-off.
Giovani Lo Celso (hamstring), Manor Solomon, Alejo Veliz (both knee), Ryan Sessegnon (knock), Yves Bissouma and Son Heung-min (both international duty) remain ruled out.
Brentford will be without loanee, Sergio Reguilon who is unavailable to face his parent club, Tottenham in line with Premier League rules on loans between clubs in the top-flight.
Christian Norgaard (ankle) is set to be back in contention but Rico Henry (knee), Bryan Mbeumo (ankle), Aaron Hickey (hamstring), Kevin Schade (adductor), Saman Ghoddos, Frank Onyeka and Yoane Wissa (all international duty) remain absent.
When is Kick-Off?
Tottenham face Brentford at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday 31 January at 7:30pm GMT, live on TNT Sport 2 in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Tottenham have won one of five previous Premier League meetings against Brentford (W1, D3, L1).
- Brentford have won one of their two previous Premier League visits to Tottenham (W1, L1).
- Injured Brentford forward, Bryan Mbeumo scored three goals in the Bees’ last two meetings against Tottenham.
- Cristian Romero has produced more passes than any other Tottemham player this season, with 1,182 passes made in 16 league appearances.
- Brentford hav lost just one of their three London derbies on the road this season (W2, L1).
Prediction
After their lacklustre exit against Man City in the FA Cup, Tottenham will need to raise their attacking game because they were otherwise fairly tame with poor shot conversion onto target, although James Maddison should add fresh attacking impetus now he is back from his ankle injury.
Brentford meanwhile have a renewed attacking spark following Ivan Toney’s winning return against Nottingam Forest, yet they did start slowly from a defensive perspective so a quicker start will be needed here if Spurs come flying out of the blocks.
Thomas Frank’s Bees though will be a difficult team to stop on the attack such is their raw counter-attacking pace and creativity, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they cause Spurs some issues if can force them to come out and play then hit them on the counter-attack.
Throw in a London derby and this game could frankly go either way but I have a feeling that Brentford will get something, especially with Toney back whereas Tottenham are lacking something with Son’s absence.
Prediction: Tottenham 1-1 Brentford
Result:Tottenham 3-2 Brentford
