Winger, Reiss Nelson has signed a new four-year contract at Arsenal until June 2027, with option for a further season.
Nelson made his senior debut as a substitute in Arsenal’s triumph over Chelsea on penalties in 2017 FA Community Shield, following a 1-1 draw at Wembley Stadium.
The 23 year-old has since gone on to score seven goals in 66 senior appearances for Arsenal and helped the team to 2019-20 FA Cup plus 2020 Community Shield titles, amidst loan spells at 1899 Hoffenheim and Feyenoord in 2018-19 and 21-22 seasons respectively.
Last season saw Nelson produce three goals and assists apiece as he helped Mikel Arteta’s Gunners finish second in the Premier League, during which he scored a memorable 97th minute winner to complete a 3-2 comeback from two goals down at home to Bournemouth.
Speaking about Nelson’s decision to sign a new four-year deal until June 2027 with option for a further year, Arteta commented: “Reiss is a player I have admired since the first day I was here. He has tremendous ability and is such an exciting offensive talent.
“Reiss knows how important he is to our squad with the quality he has.”
On what it means to secure the 23 year-old for at least four more seasons, Arteta added: “It’s great that Reiss has committed his future to us – he knows this club so well, he grew up here and we look forward to enjoying many more good moments with him.”
Arsenal’s Sporting Director, Edu meanwhile praised Nelson for his “significant contribution” to the club over the last decade, whilst he also “gained good experience on loan,” which he demonstrated in “valuable” performances upon his return to the senior squad.
Nelson is the first men’s player this season to agree a fresh contract at Arsenal, who have already tied down several players within their women’s team like Frida Maanum and Caitlin Foord.
