Forward, Caitlin Foord has signed a new contract at Arsenal.
Foord joined Arsenal from NWSL’s Portland Thorns in January 2020 and has gone to score 35 goals in 94 appearances across all competitions, since she made her debut in a 2-0 home victory over Lewes in that season’s Women’s FA Cup.
12 of her 35 goals came in this season alone includng braces in league victories away to Tottenham and Everton respectively, as well as in a 5-1 win at Lyon during the Group Stage of this season’s Women’s Champions League in which the Gunners reached the semi-finals.
“I couldn’t be happier to extend my stay here at Arsenal,” commented Foord who believes that she is becoming more confident in her game as she added: “I feel like I’m growing and improving being here in this environment so I don’t want to leave that.
“I want to continue to get better and to help the team – I enjoy going out and training every day and wanting to be better and being surrounded by world-class players. This feels like the right place – the place I want to be.”
Arsenal Women’s Head Coach, Jonas Eidevall added that Foord “is an integral part of our team” and is “delighted” to see her sign a new contract.
The Swede went on to state that Foord has been a top player since he arrived at the club in June 2021, as he added: “She is one of the best forwards in the world and has performed to a consistently high standard for us during my time here, providing some crucial goals and delivering on the biggest stages.”
Teasing his plans for next season and Foord’s role, Eidevall said: “I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together next season and Caitlin will play a key role in that.”
Arsenal will look to challenge for the quadruple next season after again securing Women’s Champions League qualification, alongside their domestic commitments in Women’s Super League, FA Cup and Continental League Cup respectively.
