Midfielder, Frida Maanum has committed her future to Arsenal by signing a new contract.
Maanum joined Arsenal from Sweden’s Linkopings FC in July 2021 and has since gone on to score 20 goals and create 11 assists in 78 appearances, of which 16 goals were scored in this season alone as she helped Arsenal reach the semi-finals of this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League.
“It feels great – I love Arsenal and I’m looking forward to continuing my time here,” commented Maanum upon signing her new contract.
At just 23 years-old, Maanum is still developing her game and believes that she will progress further at the club, as she added: “This is a place where I can develop and learn from the players around me and take steps both on and off the pitch.
“We’ve had some really special moments this season and the connection with our supporters has been fantastic, so I can’t wait to see what we can achieve together.”
Arsenal Women’s Head Coach, Jonas Eidevall applauded Maanum as one of the team’s “outstanding performers in world football this season” amidst various injuries to her teammates, as he iterated that he is “delighted” to retain “a wonderful player” who can develop further into a top talent.
Eidevall also refused to set any targets for Maanum as he said: “I believe there is a very high ceiling for what Frida can achieve in the game and I’m so pleased she will continue to wear Arsenal colours moving forward.”
During her time at Arsenal, Maanum was involved in Norway’s disastrous 2022 UEFA Women’s Euro campaign on English soil as they crashed out at the Group Stage – which included a 8-0 loss against eventual champions, England in Group A.
Maanum is now set to be part of Norway’s squad for this summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup, in which Norway will play hosts – New Zealand plus Philippines and Switzerland in the Group Stage.
