Aston Martin have opened the first phase of their new Headquarters at Silverstone.
2021 saw Aston Martin announce plans to launch a new campus at their existing Silverstone base, with the first phase of that project now officially opened and operational ahead of their home race this weekend after 24 months of building work, as F1 arrives at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix.
The first building houses the team’s design office alongside engineering, production, commercial and manufacturing areas, housing over 700 team members.
A separate wind tunnel meanwhile is currently half-way its building phase, whilst the original factory building which dates back to 1992 will soon be replaced by a new facility in its spot.
The new headquarters covers 400,000sqft and once the two remaining phases are completed, Aston Martin will have their manufacturing based within a single location for the first time in their history at Silverstone.
Aston Martin’s Executive Chairman, Lawrence Stroll spoke of the new campus as “being built around our people”, whilst also seeking to become “the most sustainable campus the sport has ever seen.”
Stroll also iterated that this new campus is a serious statement of intent for the team’s ambitions as he explained: “Our new home is a bold statement about how Aston Martin will operate in the years ahead.
“A premium, ultra-luxury environment, befitting the brand, we want this to be an amazing place, giving our colleagues, partners, and visitors a sense of comfort, creativity, and pride.
“With the AMR Technology Campus, we have created an attractive place to work that will prioritise the wellness of our colleagues, while giving us a boost in the pursuit of on-track performance.”
Aston Martin have ensured that the new HQ is environmentally sustainable with solar panels included and a reduced carbon footprint of 278 tonnes of CO2 emissions on an annual basis.
The AMR Technology Campus also will deliver a biodiversity net gain through creating over 775,000sqft of wild meadow, alongside planting of over 1,500 UK native and grown tree plus 30,000 additional shurbs and plants and 107,639sqft of lawn.
Accessible routes will also installed for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport whilst electriv vehicle fast charging points will be available, with staff encouraged to join Aston Martin’s electric car scheme.
The second phase stafe of the development will see a fitness centre built as part of a programme focused upon the well-being of employees, complementing walking and exercise routes around the grounds.
Aston Martin driver, Lance Stroll meanwhile hailed the official opening of the first phase of the new campus as “an exciting milestone” in the team’s quest to fight for F1 titles, whilst marking a “huge upgrade” upon their previous base.
Stroll’s teammate, Fernando Alonso meanwhile praised the new building as he added: “I’m incredibly impressed by our new home. From the Design Office to Mission Control, all the facilities are second to none and I see a lot of smiles when I walk around.
“To win in this sport you need to excel at everything, and this new facility is a game changer. It’s a true signal of intent to enable us to fight for world championships.”
